Lesson sequence
I don't know my 7 times tables and I am going to show you an easy way to work it out.
I used counters but animal strips are very good. Fly flips are excellent and will be used in a subsequent lesson.

Student responses (from kids stage 4 low 5)
Student was not able to follow the guided lesson around using 5's but was able to successful complete with task with an strategy that was appropriate for him.
I did not expect this student to fully access the task but he elected to work alone on the task and with guidance and reference back to the counters and the links between them and the recording he was able to duplicate the strategy.
Student responses for kids who were at the perfect level for the guided lesson and task
These two examples below are of student achieving exactly what I hoped/expected from the task.
Work from the students who went onto the extension task
These students applied the learning exactly and "found fives"
These students went one step further and used 10's!
