Head + Prove it
Do it in your head
I stated doing this when I had a group of students who could do a lot of paper but really struggled to gloss well.
Scrap of paper. Draw a circle.
Pose a problem to the students.
Students write an answer in the circle using just mental strategy.
They can't change this.
Then then prove or check their thinking on the rest of the scrap.
Then chat about it as a group. The discussion should focus on - who got it wrong in their head? Why did you get it wrong? What did you fix up? What will you do differently next time.
