Prove it...
Being able to monitor (anecdotally) the individual progression and achievement of kids is challenging for me when they are working in groups. Having evidence of individual progression and achievement is almost nonexistent.
So...I introduced prove it Friday.
So...I introduced prove it Friday.
- No materials. Except what you can draw.
- No help.
- 30 min silence.
The kids choose which questions best illustrate their learning from a range each week:
There were 84 little fish in a lake. Trout ate 26. How many were left?
There we 62 fish in a river. Some got taken away to be pets. There we 45 left. How many were left?
I had 60 fish in a pond. Half died because it was too cold. Then I ate 4. How many were left.
There were 23 kids in our class. Seven are girls. How many are boys?
Here are 65 kids in Rata. Mr Riley keeps 19 in a lunchtime because they are noisy. How many were allowed to go and play?
There are 420 kids in our school. 98 scooter to school. They rest walk. How many walk?

Also trialing this:
Kids also have the option of writing their own question and solving it.
I usually make them do one of the questions I have provided first.
To follow up:
I lead a discussion on responses and categorise them them by stage.
Children are prompted to talk about what stage they are on and what they need to do to get to the next stage. I think I will make this a written task so it can be included in their folder. It will be like their goal for their next week of learning.

On this occasion some kids did not have a next step so I quickly gave an example of same both sides. And, we added a level four for our SC.
