More Sticks (read the note)
This task again explores describing patterns with a rule. One important part of this that students need to be aware of is that the rule should apply to all elements in the pattern - not only the first or the most recent member. The rule that describes how many sticks are in shape 1 needs to also be able to explain shape 2. The only way to do this is to look for the relationship between the shape number and the number of sticks in that shape.

Note:
If you are providing sticks or getting them to draw them. Get them to draw the left most stick a different color. This will help a LOT in getting them to identify the 1+3+3+3+3 example below:
